Maybelline Touch of Spice creamy matte lipstick

I’ve been looking back at my fall lipstick collection recently as I wanted to find something with moody reds and berry shades. I remembered when Maybelline released their Touch of Spice lipstick, I wrote a review on it.

But guess what? I forgot to post it.

So, here we go.

I bought the Creamy Matte shade at Walgreens for something like $11. You can probably get these cheaper now at Target or Ulta, so I encourage you to check their prices first.

The reason why I picked up the Touch of Spice is because the other colors in the range seemed a little bright for me. I was really just looking for something more neutral to wear everyday.

The opacity of these Maybelline Creamy Matte lipsticks is incredible (I almost wanted to use a lip liner together to soften the color). In fact, you may experience slight stains on your lips from the more colorful, and darker shades.

For a sheerer application, I recommend combining and applying on top of a lip balm because it really is that pigmented! This particular lipstick has a slight floral scent that dissipates quickly after application (but please take note if you are sensitive to fragrance). Because of the creamy formulation, applying the Maybelline Creamy Matte Touch of Spice onto the lips was a smooth process.

Mac Mehr and Touch of Spice swatch
In the swatch above, I compared Mac Mehr and Maybelline Touch of Spice.

The Mac’s Mehr has a dry, matte finish and contains less red tones, while Maybelline’s Touch of Spice is more of a satin finish with red and brown undertones.

Overall, I like wearing matte finishes more because matte lipsticks create the illusion of a natural lip color (this differs per person, but for some reason, matte products are more wearable and natural in my case). I recommend purchasing at least one of the shades but waiting for a sale or BOGO deal.

This Maybelline lipstick features a unique velvet formula and wonderful pigmentation (creamy matte may be contradictory but Maybelline makes it work).

Now, go and add it to your lipstick collection. You won’t regret it.
